In 1986, our family took over the Herrenhaus brand with a clear vision: to preserve its traditional character while advancing the craftsmanship and design to the highest level. The first CUBIC storage boxes were developed as outdoor living began to change in the late 20th century. Large lounge furniture started to shape terraces and gardens, creating new levels of comfort in outdoor spaces. With this development came a practical challenge: generous seating areas required large quantities of cushions, yet suitable and durable storage solutions were rarely available.

Drawing on decades of experience in woodworking and outdoor furniture, the idea for the first CUBIC boxes emerged. The early versions were constructed from laminated wood and protected with a durable plastic coating, combining structural strength with reliable weather protection. The goal was not only functionality, but also a clean architectural appearance that would integrate naturally into terraces and gardens.

Grilling was evolving into a central element of outdoor living, yet many beautifully designed terraces and gardens were still accompanied by simple, lightweight gas grills that rarely matched the quality of their surroundings.

Drawing on decades of experience in designing and building storage furniture — particularly sideboards and outdoor storage solutions — the concept for a more architectural approach to outdoor cooking began to take shape. The goal was to create a kitchen that would integrate naturally into carefully designed outdoor spaces while offering the functionality and durability required for everyday use.

The very first CUBIC Outdoor Kitchen was built by hand in the workshop, crafted over several Saturdays and long evenings as an early prototype. It combined practical knowledge from furniture making with the idea of bringing structure, permanence, and design quality to outdoor cooking.
